Which Underlay Is Right For Your Laminate Flooring?
Selecting the right underlay is important for enhancing the performance and longevity of your laminate flooring. Two options here at Noyeks Newmans are the SWISSKRONO “ProVent" Foam Underlay and the ACOUSTICA Gold Excel Sound Reducing Underlay. Each one has unique features and benefits to cater for different flooring needs. Underlay is crucial for laminate and engineered wood flooring because not only does it help with the performance of your flooring, but it can also help with noise reduction and heat insulation.
The Provent Foam Underlay by SWISSKRONO is a versatile solution designed to protect your floor from moisture while improving air circulation. This underlay features an integrated moisture barrier and micro-grooves, which help prevent the formation of mould by promoting air flow beneath the floor. This is extremely important for laminate and engineered wood flooring in moisture-prone areas. By maintaining a dry and healthy environment under your floor, ProVent ensures the longevity and durability of your flooring.
ACOUSTICA Gold Excel is superior when it comes to sound reduction. This underlay is designed to significantly reduce impact noise and airborne sound, making it ideal for multi-level homes or apartments where noise control is crucial. Its advanced composition provides excellent cushioning and support, enhancing the comfort of your floor. Whether you’re installing a laminate or engineered wood floor, this underlay will help with a quieter space. When selecting an underlay, consider the needs of the flooring and the conditions of the installation area. Both underlays provide benefits such as moisture protection to sound reduction.
What is Engineered Wood Flooring?
Engineered wood flooring is a popular choice for homeowners seeking the elegance of natural wood combined with modern durability and ease of maintenance. Unlike traditional solid wood flooring, engineered wood is constructed from multiple layers of plywood, topped with a solid wood veneer. This unique construction offers several advantages that make it a standout option for any home.
Durability and Stability: Engineered wood flooring is designed to be more stable than solid wood. The layered structure reduces the expansion and contraction caused by changes in temperature and humidity, making it less prone to warping or cupping. This makes engineered wood an excellent choice for areas where moisture might be an issue, like kitchens or basements.
Natural Wood Aesthetics: The top layer of engineered wood flooring is made from genuine hardwood, giving it the same authentic look and feel as solid wood. You can choose from a variety of wood species, finishes, and plank sizes to match your style and décor.
Easy Care and Maintenance: Engineered wood flooring is not only beautiful but also easy to maintain. Regular sweeping and occasional mopping with a damp cloth keeps it looking pristine. Its factory-applied finishes are highly durable, making it resistant to scratches and wear.
Compatibility with Underfloor Heating: One of the standout features of engineered wood flooring is its compatibility with underfloor heating systems. The layered construction allows it to conduct heat efficiently without damaging the wood, providing a warm and cosy underfoot feel during colder months.
Versatile Installation Options: Engineered wood flooring can be installed over various subfloors, including concrete and existing floors, offering flexibility in installation methods such as floating, glueing, or nailing down.

Decking - Know How
***At Noyeks we recommend that you always use a qualified decking installer***
How To Properly Maintain A Subframe?
Your subframe needs good ventilation. Air must be able to flow unobstructed around the entire frame. If you are using an existing subframe you will most likely need to add additional joisting. Where the head joint of your decking boards meets on the subframe you will need two joists with a gap of 20mm between the joists (also known as a double joist). At the edge of the frame at an exit or entry point, you should also have a double joist, Up to a 50mm gap is fine here. The subframe should have a sufficient gradient to allow water to drain off the deck boards. All cuts on the subframe should be treated with a timber preservative. It is very important to spend time and make sure that the subframe is constructed and fitted correctly. The performance and look of your decking boards are the reflection of how well your subframe is constructed.
How To Care & Maintain For Composite Decking?
Clay, dirt and green can be cleaned with warm water and cleaner. Stronger dirt can be removed with a plastic brush. Pressure washers, steam cleaners or sandblasting must NOT be used. For maintenance and removal of low signs of usage, you should clean the surface regularly with a scrubbing brush (silicon carbide – broom) lengthways. Damages like scratches or burned spots, remove as much as possible. There is one exception - Capri Terrace/Protect Duo can only be cleaned with warm water and a suitable cleaner to avoid damaging the cover. For WPC or BPC decked terraces, the rules are similar to wooden or plastic floorings. Hard wheels/rollers and coloured furniture feet can cause visible abrasion, discolouration or damage on the surface. Rollers and slides should be checked at invisible spots before use.
How To Install Composite Decking?
Store the decking lying flat on flat ground, dry, with air circulation and without direct covering do not throw, twist, bend or tilt the decking. The perfect temperature for installation is 10-25 °C. Do not install in extremely low or high-temperature conditions. Drill the holes before screwing the fixing clips. Plan 2% incline for water drain alongside the planks away from the building. Check the planks before installation and put damaged parts aside. Please do not install any damaged parts. Claims for noticeable defects will not be accepted if the material is already installed. The ground must be free from vegetation, sustainable, water-absorbing and safe from freeze. Water needs to run off. Always plan incline forcing the water away from the building. For enough air circulation, you need at least 2.5 cm of air under the decking and all around it. When laying the planks please ensure that they are laid all in the same direction. Composite decking can swell with temperature and humidity and shrink when cold and dry. With the installation, this movement must not be hindered. The planks must be fixed only with the stainless steel clip on each frame. The distance of the planks to parts of the building must be a minimum of 2.5 cm. When laying spliced planks the distance between the ends of the planks is 7 mm.
How To Install Exterpark Decking?
If the base is solid but water-absorbing, you need to install a plastic sheet to block humidity. On a solid and waterproof base, you can lay out joists at 36cm span on top of levelling items such as pedestals and wedges at 45-55cm span. When your base is ground lay and level up to 15cm of gravel stones and slopes to lead water to the drainage point. Exterpark decking can't be installed directly on the ground. Keep space of 10-15cm between base and deck to provide air circulation and avoid condensation. The layout of deck boards and joists must be overlapping 50%. Weather conditions such as temperature and humidity at the time of installation must be taken into account for the 4mm expansion gap. In the summertime, you should have no less than 1mm expansion gap. Recommended joist span is 36cm for most cases of moderate to intense traffic use. In more demanding conditions (busy pedestrian areas) you should get a span of 31cm. The Minimum recommended height is 10/15 cm and 2% drainage slope.

When selecting cabinets, think about your storage needs. Incorporate a mix of deep drawers for pots and pans, pull-out shelves for easy access, and upper cabinets with glass doors to display your favourite dishware. Don't forget to utilise corners with lazy Susans or pull-out racks. Installation is just as crucial as selection. Ensure cabinets are level and securely anchored to prevent future issues. Professional installation is recommended to achieve a polished look and maximize space efficiency.
Choosing & Installing Kitchen Cabinets
Renovating a kitchen is an exciting yet challenging endeavour. Whether you're updating an outdated space or creating your dream kitchen from scratch, careful planning and thoughtful choices are key to a successful renovation. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the essentials, from choosing cabinets and countertops to selecting the perfect appliances.
Choosing Countertops
Countertops are not just a work surface; they can also be a stunning focal point in your kitchen. Popular materials include quartz, laminate, solid surface and butcher block, each offering unique benefits. Quartz tops and laminate are known for their durability and resistance to scratches and stains. They come in various colours and patterns, making it easy to find a style that complements your cabinets. Butcher block countertops add warmth and are ideal for food preparation, but they require regular maintenance to prevent damage. When installing countertops, precise measurements are critical. A seamless installation can enhance both the functionality and aesthetics of your kitchen. Consider professional templating and installation to ensure a perfect fit.
Choosing Backsplashes
A backsplash protects your walls from splashes and spills while adding a decorative element to your kitchen. Materials range from classic subway tiles to bold mosaics and sleek glass panels. Choose a backsplash that complements your countertops and overall kitchen design.

NEFF offers a range of innovative appliances designed to maximize efficiency and style.
Which Worktops Are Right for Me?
Choosing the right worktop for your kitchen design can be complicated, making sure you’re achieving both the desired look and functionality of your space. Here’s a quick guide to help you understand the benefits of quartz, solid wood, and laminate worktops to find the perfect fit for your home.
Quartz Worktops: Quartz worktops are engineered from a blend of natural quartz stone and resin, creating a non-porous, incredibly durable surface. They are highly resistant to scratches, stains, and heat, making them ideal for busy kitchens. Quartz comes in a wide range of colours and unique patterns, often mimicking the appearance of natural stone like granite or marble. This makes it a versatile choice for both modern and traditional kitchens. Additionally, quartz requires minimal maintenance, needing only regular wiping with mild soap and water.
Solid Wood Worktops: Solid wood worktops bring a warm, natural beauty to any kitchen. Common choices include oak, walnut, and beech, each offering unique grain patterns and tones. Wooden worktops are durable and can be sanded to remove scratches or renew their finish. However, they require regular maintenance, such as oiling, to protect against moisture and maintain their appearance. Solid wood is best suited for areas where it won’t be exposed to excessive moisture or heat.
Laminate Worktops: these are made by bonding a decorative layer to a particleboard or MDF core. They are the most affordable option, available in countless designs that mimic wood, stone, or other materials. Laminate is easy to clean and resistant to stains, but it can be susceptible to scratches and damage from sharp objects or heat. It's a practical choice for homeowners seeking a stylish yet cost-effective solution.
Each of these worktop materials has its own set of advantages. Consider your lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and budget to determine which is right for you. Whether you prefer the luxury of quartz, the warmth of wood, or the affordability of laminate, there’s a worktop to suit your needs.

How To Install A Composite Worktop?
Required tools & materials(as per Unica):
- Sandpaper & abrasive pad
- adhesive & sealant
- 20ml solvent & 20ml linseed oil
- Applicator & scraper
- 3x toggle bolts
- 3x wooden biscuit
- 10x under-mount sink clip inserts
- compact laminate worktop jig and pegs
- router with a minimum of 1600W capability
- 30mm guide bush
- 12.7mm router cutter with 50mm cut length
- biscuit jointer, quick release clamps
Miter the worktop and cut biscuits and bolt slots. Unika recommends TopSeal which is a brand new colour match adhesive and sealant for laminates and compact laminate worktop joints. TopSeal is the latest generation of high-performance, toughened polymer technology. Key each cut edge with the 320 grid nylon pad and then clean with a little acetone to remove any dirt. Dry fit the worktops. Fix the applicator and apply an even bead around one side of the worktop joint. Also, apply to the biscuit slots before putting the biscuits in place. Bring the joints together and tighten the toggle bolts using the 3mm hex key taking care, not to over tighten them. Quickly remove the excess. If the worktop is heavily textured it may be necessary to use acetone. It may be necessary to fit sink clips - compact worktops cannot be screwed into directly as this can result in the worktop splitting. Use spreader dowels and roofing bolts. Firstly mark the fixing positions of the clips on the reverse of the worktop. Using an 8.5mm diameter drill with a depth stop set between 9-10mm drill out the selected number of holes. Push the spreader dowels in so they sit flush to the underside of the worktop. The roofing bolts can then be placed through the sink clip and through the brass spreader dowel and tightened with the screwdriver.

Understanding MDF, Plywood & Melamine Boards
Panel products are versatile materials commonly used in construction, furniture making, and interior design. Three popular types you can find at Noyeks Newmans are MDF, plywood, and melamine, each with unique properties and applications.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard): MDF is an engineered wood product made by compressing wood fibres with resin and wax under high pressure and temperature. Known for its smooth surface and consistent density, MDF is ideal for detailed woodworking, such as cabinet doors and moulding. It's easy to cut and shape, making it a favourite for DIY projects. However, it is heavy and not as strong as natural wood, and it can swell if exposed to moisture, so it’s best used in dry, indoor environments. You can find variations of MDFs such as Primed, Ready-to-Paint, Moisture Resistant MDF and Flame Retardant MDF.
Plywood: created by layering thin sheets of wood veneer, with each layer's grain running perpendicular to the one below it. This cross-grain structure gives plywood excellent strength and stability. Available in various grades and thicknesses, plywood is suitable for a wide range of applications, from flooring and roofing to cabinetry and furniture. Its durability makes it a reliable choice for both structural and decorative purposes.
Melamine: panels consist of a particleboard or MDF core with a hard, smooth melamine resin surface. This surface is often printed with decorative patterns, mimicking wood grain or other designs. Melamine is highly resistant to scratches, moisture, and stains, making it ideal for cabinets, shelves, and countertops. It's a budget-friendly option that offers a durable and stylish finish for both residential and commercial interiors.
Understanding these panel products can help you choose the right material for your projects, balancing cost, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Whether you need the strength of plywood, the smoothness of MDF, or the decorative versatility of melamine, there’s a panel product to meet your needs.

How to Care for Internal Doors?
Internal doors play a crucial role in defining the look and functionality of your home. To keep them in top condition, regular care and maintenance are essential. At Noyeks, we carry a variety of internal doors suitable for any aesthetic, whether you’re looking for a residential internal door or a commercial door.
Cleaning: Regular dusting prevents dirt and grime buildup. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the surface, following the grain for wooden doors. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the finish; instead, use mild soap mixed with water for tougher stains. For glass panels, use a glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to keep them sparkling.
Hinge and Hardware Maintenance: Check door hinges and handles periodically to ensure they’re secure and functioning smoothly. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the hinges if you notice any squeaking. Tighten any loose screws on handles or locks to maintain smooth operation and prevent wear.
Paint and Finish Care: Touch up any chips or scratches in the paint or finish to keep the doors looking fresh. For wooden doors, consider reapplying a protective finish every few years to preserve their natural beauty and prevent warping or cracking.
By following these simple maintenance tips, you can extend the life and appearance of your internal doors, keeping them functional and beautiful for years to come. Make sure to always check with the manufacturer when using a product on your door.
What are Fire-rated Doors?
Fire-rated doors are essential components in commercial, public and residential buildings, playing a crucial role in safeguarding occupants and property against the spread of fire. Noyeks offers FD30 and FD60 doors, named for their ability to withstand fire for 30 and 60 minutes respectively. These doors and architraves are specifically designed and constructed to resist fire, preventing its spread between compartments or rooms. Made from high fire-resistant materials such as solid wood, metal, or composite materials, fire-rated door kits are equipped with fire-resistant seals and intumescent strips. In the event of a fire, these seals and strips expand when exposed to heat, forming a barrier against flames and smoke, thereby slowing down the fire's progression and allowing occupants more time to evacuate safely. In public spaces where safety is paramount, investing in fire-rated doors is crucial. Whether it's protecting valuable assets or ensuring the well-being of employees and customers, these doors provide peace of mind and enhance overall safety standards.

Stair Parts - Know How
Understanding Different Staircase Designs for Your Home
Choosing the right staircase design is crucial in connecting the floors of your home seamlessly and stylishly. The construction of a staircase involves precision engineering and careful design to suit the layout and aesthetic of your space. Here’s a look at some popular staircase designs and their unique features.
1. Straight Flight Staircases: Straight flight staircases are the most common type found in homes and commercial properties. As their name suggests, these stairs don’t change direction between floors. They are straightforward to construct, requiring connection only at the top and bottom. This simplicity makes them a popular choice for many homeowners. However, they occupy significant floor space and must comply with building regulations that limit each flight to a maximum of sixteen risers. This design’s linear nature makes measuring for stair components relatively easy, and it provides a clean, modern look.
2. Winder Staircases: Winder staircases are designed to turn the stairs 90 degrees either left or right without using a landing. They incorporate triangular steps, with the central step often referred to as a kite winder due to its shape. This design is a space-saving alternative to straight-flight stairs, making it ideal for homes with limited space. The Winder staircase's compact nature allows for more efficient use of space while offering a stylish transition between floors.
3. Half Landing Staircases: Also known as U-shaped stairs, half-landing staircases consist of two parallel flights connected by a landing that makes a 180-degree turn. Although more complex to build, they are compact and practical. The intermediate landing can serve as a multifunctional area, providing additional space for reading nooks, decorative displays, or even extra storage. This type of staircase adds a touch of elegance and functionality to homes, making it a versatile option for various architectural layouts.
Each of these staircase designs offers unique advantages, and the best choice depends on your home's layout and personal preferences. Whether you prefer the simplicity of a straight flight, the space efficiency of a winder staircase, or the added functionality of a half-landing staircase, understanding these options will help you make an informed decision for your next renovation project.
How to Renovate Your Staircase?
Noyeks offers many staircase products, from handrail kits to spindles and caps. Renovating a staircase is made easy with us! Here’s a guide to refreshing your staircase and giving it an upgrade.
1. Plan - Start by assessing the current state of your staircase. Check for structural issues such as loose or creaking steps, and consider whether you want to replace or refinish existing components. Decide on the look you want to achieve. Are you going for a modern, minimalist style or a traditional design? Consider how the new staircase will blend with your home’s decor.
2. Choose materials - risers: for the steps, you can opt for one of our oak riser options, ensuring a timeless addition to any design, spindles and caps: choose spindles that complement your staircase’s design—whether traditional wooden spindles or sleek metal ones. Caps, or finials, on top of the newel posts, add a finishing touch and can range from simple to ornate, depending on your style. Handrails: select materials like wood or metal for handrails to enhance safety and style. Mixing materials can add a contemporary touch.
3. Prep and removal - remove any carpeting, old treads, and risers. Sand down surfaces if you’re planning to refinish them. Address any structural issues before installing new components. This might include reinforcing the framework or replacing damaged steps.
4. Installation - Fit new treads and risers securely. For a seamless look, ensure precise cuts and snug fits. Use adhesives and nails or screws for added stability. Attach the handrails, ensuring they are firmly anchored and meet safety standards. This step often requires careful measurements and adjustments.
5. Finishing touches - Apply your chosen finish to the steps, risers, and handrails. Staining can highlight the wood’s natural beauty while painting offers more colour options. Consider adding stair runners for a soft, stylish accent, or incorporate decorative moulding for a refined touch.
