I’ve worked in the wood products industry for 25 years. It’s a fascinating industry because it’s changing all the time. The biggest change I’ve seen recently is the move from basic wood components to highly sophisticated, engineered wood used in flooring, kitchens, work surfaces and the construction industry. Another thing I love about this industry is the fact that I’m working with the only truly renewable resource: wood.

Please get in touch if you’d like to share my passion for the wood products that surround us in our daily lives.. Email me at

sliding wardrobe doorsWe all want to draw the best out of our living space, whether it is a tiny studio apartment, or a large home. Wardrobe doors, lighting elements, mirrors/glass -  anything can be used cleverly to create visual space. This doesn't always require tearing down walls or major renovations; you can overcome the design challenges by using the right furniture and other decorative components.

Furniture is key to how roomy your living space looks. Make sure you pick functional and minimalistic furniture for smaller rooms. Having a lot of furniture in your room can make it look cluttered. Pick one large sofa instead of having several couches. This way your living room will look a lot bigger. Push your furniture a few inches away from the wall: leaving a gap creates a visual illusion giving the room a more spacious feel.

Choose furniture with exposed feet for really small rooms. Exposing the floor creates an effect of extra space. Consider glass or lucite furniture. They do not obstruct light and don't rob the charm of your room!

Seating can double up as a storage too. In order to create physical space in your bedroom, try using foldable wall mounted units, like creating a writing desk out of a wall unit or having a foldable dining table in your kitchen.

Hang mirrors! You can use individual pieces or a single large piece that will create more visual space in your living room or dining room. When light is reflected around the room it creates the illusion of a bigger space.

You may not have wide-open spaces in your kitchen, but you can make it look bigger. Making use of glass kitchen doors, facing the outside or to the next room can have the same effect as putting up a mirror. Glass kitchen doors can make it seem like your kitchen is much roomier than it is. You can also make use of glass counter or glass door cabinets.

At Noyeks Newmans, we have a wide array of kitchen accessories and doors that you can choose to install in your home, to give it a roomy and open feel. Just drop in to one of our showrooms, or give us a call on (01) 419 5700 to find out more. A friendly salesperson will help you choose what's best for your home.

b2ap3_thumbnail_GFXjavawallnur.jpgThere are ancient Egyptian paintings depicting simple wood slabs hung between openings and used to close off one space from another. As Egypt was hot and very dry, these basic doors were unframed and didn't run the risk of warping, although they echoed disapproval as Cleopatra slammed her way through her palace.

In earlier more primitive times, the cave dwellers, in an effort to protect themselves from the elements and prowling beasts, vainly gathered rocks and other junk around the entrance until smarter Flintstones cut down trees and stacked heavy planks at the opening of the cave. These "doors" developed over time into a myriad of styles, shapes, sizes, materials, functions and operating methods.

At Noyeks we offer a very large range of interior doors and all the accessories, framing, architrave and hardware needed to give you doors that will last the test of time.
